I Made It. :)
So I am now officially in India... currently in the largest city- Mumbai. It is so weird being back... and honestly, even though I was only here a month about a year and a half ago- it almost feels as though I have never left.
The plane ride over here was interesting... first I fly from Charleston to Atlanta (1 hour flight)... then when I get to Atlanta, my next plane was boarding so I had to RUN through the airport to make the next flight to Amsterdam (9 1/2 hour flight). Sadly, although I made that flight, my luggage did not. Then when I got to Amsterdam, I boarded my final flight to Mumbai (9 1/2 hour flight). That was the 'fun' flight. First, getting on the plane I noticed an Indian carrying a cat as a carry-on. Yes- a cat. A HUGE house cat lol. I was stoked because I had never seen a cat on an airplane before. And when I say huge, I mean huge... like - bigger than my dog, Kutta.
The last 3 hours or so of the flight were very shaky due to turbulence. It got pretty bad and the pilot had to continuously come on the intercom and say "passengers, I cannot stress how important it is to remain in your seat with your seatbelt fastened!" We also didn't get our last meal because of the turbulence. When the turbulence died down, and we finally started to land, a man stands up in a full Muslim wardrobe and just randomly walks to the back of the plane. The flight attendances (who were already in their seats-buckled) start freaking out, nicely, and saying "Sir, what are you doing...? Sir, you cannot be up.. Sir, please go sit back down." Yet the man just acted like he didn't hear them, and continued to the back, opened a top compartment and pulls out a big rolley suitcase and then strolls back to the front. By this time the flight attendances were up and by him, still saying nicely, "Sir, you cannot do this. Sir, you have to put that back until the plane lands... Sir, please go put that back!" Finally he understood what they were saying and went back to the back of the plane and put his luggage back up- then went to his seat and buckled up just in time for landing.
But that's not all... we land- and the power goes out. So we are stuck on the airplane because they can't get the door open. That didn't take too long though. Once I was off the plane and in the airport, waiting on luggage, that's when I hear "Will Sarah Williams please see Delta". Let me tell you- a weird feeling comes over you when you are standing in a third world country's airport full millions of people (not to mention you have to lie about the reason you are even there)- and they call YOUR name over the intercom. Luckily it was just because they lost my luggage that I am to live on for 6 months. :)
So I haven't gotten my luggage back, but it's been an interesting trip. And now as I am sitting here writing, it is 6:30pm, on new years eve... there is a roof-top club thing right outside my window preparing for tonight... and their music is shaking the entire building. Me and my roommate are just looking at each other, saying, "You've GOT to be kidding me."
Happy New Year's Everyone! I'll get some pics up when I can! :)
